Dimitris Tzanis is a PhD candidate at the Department of Transportation Planning and Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Since 2018, he has also been working as a Research Associate at the Hellenic Institute of Transport (HIT) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). He holds an MSc in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
His main research interests and expertise include, among others, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS), Autonomous Vehicles (AVs), vehicle movement behavior modeling, the simulation of various traffic conditions using programs such as SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility), and the collection and analysis of data through the development of algorithms based on Machine Learning (ML) methods and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Additionally, his work focuses on traffic and network management in multimodal networks, applying advanced methods and strategies.
He has participated in research projects in the field of transport, funded by both European and national programs, and has contributed to scientific papers on Intelligent Transport Systems, Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems, and the analysis and simulation of different traffic conditions.
Dimitris Tzanis is pursuing his doctoral thesis, titled “Self-Optimized Dynamic Traffic Control System in Urban Road Networks,” under the supervision of Professor E. Vlahogianni.
